Set in 1971, Empty Arms follows Rose, a high school junior whose life revolves around her close-knit family, her love of sports and music, and her relationship with Donnie, a stand-out basketball player hoping to escape a troubled home, until an unplanned pregnancy shatters their carefully imagined future. Sent away in secrecy to St. Anne’s maternity home for unwed mothers and forced to give her baby up for adoption, Rose is promised a return to normalcy, only to discover that grief, guilt, and loss cannot be so easily erased.

When she comes home, her relationships have shifted and her future feels suddenly narrow, and as the world around her begins to change, Rose must confront first love, responsibility, and the quiet, irreversible end of innocence that shapes the rest of her life.
